The final testing of the Budapest–Belgrade railway has been successfully completed. According to Hungarian Minister of Transport Dávid Vitézy, who announced the results on Facebook, this was the most thorough testing of the railway to date, during which trains operated for hours as if passenger services had already begun, but without passengers on board.
During the testing, experts examined various emergency situations and how they could be addressed.
According to the minister, the initial results show that the testing was generally successful. The train control system, which is crucial for safety at the maximum speed of 160 kilometres per hour, functioned as intended.
However, the passenger information system did not perform satisfactorily, meaning that the contractor will have to address the identified shortcomings. An official analysis of the test results will be carried out in the coming days, involving experts from MÁV, the Hungarian transport authority and TÜV, the company responsible for quality control.
The minister stressed that passenger services on the railway will only begin once it has been established that nothing poses a risk to passenger safety. He added that detailed testing of the railway has been underway since the summer, while the latest simulation represented an important step in the process.
