MT-KOMEX is nearing completion of the construction of the “Solar North” solar power plant in Bačka Topola. With a grid connection capacity of 9.9 MW and a solar tracking system that follows the Sun’s movement, the project combines state-of-the-art power equipment with technology designed to make more efficient use of solar radiation. Once construction is complete and the necessary technical inspections have been carried out, the plant will be ready to enter trial operation.

One of the project’s key features is the use of an advanced single-axis solar tracking system that automatically follows the Sun’s movement. Unlike fixed mounting structures, these systems adjust the position of solar panels throughout the day, tracking the Sun from east to west. This improves the utilization of solar radiation and creates conditions for higher electricity production.
The “Solar North” plant uses the POWERFIT-1 system manufactured by Powerway, comprising a total of 567 tracker rows. The system operates through an electromechanical drive and automated controls that adjust the position of the panels throughout the day. In the event of strong winds or other adverse weather conditions, the system can automatically move the structures into a safe position, reducing their exposure to mechanical loads.
The control system is organized through local control units, zone-based communication units, and a central monitoring system. This setup enables coordinated tracker operation, monitoring of operating parameters, and the timely detection of potential faults.
Power plant featuring more than 21,500 solar panels
The “Solar North” solar power plant comprises 21,552 solar panels manufactured by AIKO Solar, each with a rated capacity of 650 Wp, bringing the total installed capacity to approximately 14 MWp. The direct current generated by the panels is converted into alternating current by 36 Huawei inverters, each with a nominal capacity of 300 kW.
The electrical infrastructure also includes three transformer substations operating at 20/0.8 kV, equipped with power transformers rated at 3,300 kVA and 6,600 kVA, as well as a medium-voltage switchgear system manufactured by Siemens. The plant is designed to connect to the distribution grid with an active power capacity of 9,999 kW.
Additional support for monitoring and analyzing system performance is provided by seven meteorological stations. These monitor parameters such as solar irradiance, ambient air temperature, solar panel temperature, and wind speed and direction. The collected data enables performance analysis and monitoring of environmental conditions that affect electricity production.
