Aggregation and Virtual Power Plants in Focus: Nexum Energy Unveils a Domestic VPP Platform for the Electricity Market
Share

At a time when power systems across Europe are undergoing rapid transformation due to the increasing share of renewable energy sources, Nexum Energy has introduced a domestic Virtual Power Plant (VPP) platform in Niš, designed for aggregators, active customers, energy communities, and other participants in the electricity market.
The platform enables the management of distributed energy resources through a unified software environment that includes production and consumption forecasting, energy resource scheduling, portfolio optimization, and market integration.
The official launch took place at the Science and Technology Park Niš, where representatives of energy companies, institutions, development organizations, investors, and energy experts gathered to discuss the future of aggregation, flexibility, and the digitalization of the power system.

The development of renewable energy sources, battery storage systems, and active customers is reshaping the energy sector. Consequently, the concept of virtual power plants is becoming one of the key mechanisms for efficiently managing a large number of distributed energy resources and integrating them into the electricity market.
During the event, the capabilities of the Nexum VPP platform were presented through a demonstration of forecasting, scheduling, and market integration processes, as well as through insights gained during pilot implementations.
In addition to the technological aspects, significant attention was given to exchanging views on the regulatory framework and market conditions necessary for the development of aggregation, energy communities, and new models of consumer participation in the electricity market.
– Energy transition is no longer a matter of the future; it is a process happening today. As the number of solar power plants, battery storage systems, and active customers continues to grow, so does the need for advanced digital tools that enable their efficient management. Our goal is to contribute to the development of such an energy system through a domestic technological solution developed specifically for the needs of the regional market – stated representatives of Nexum Energy.

The Nexum VPP platform was developed with the support of the Innovation Fund and the StarTech programme.
The organizers emphasized that the event demonstrated strong market interest in the topics of aggregation, flexibility, and the management of distributed energy resources, all of which will play an increasingly important role in the development of the power systems of Serbia and the wider region in the years ahead.
